Neva Bernice Rooks passed
away on December 16, 2011 at
the age of 89, at Mesa Manor long
term care facility in Grand Junction,
Colorado.
Neva was born in Bernidji, Minnesota
on December 1, 1922 to
Claude and Mammie Hawkins.
The family moved to the Grand
Valley of Colorado in 1927. She
married Victor Johnson in 1941. From this union, a daughter, Sandra
G. Johnson was born. Victor and Neva later divorced. She then
married Clyde Rooks in Mesa County on August 28, 1954, blessing
her with a stepdaughter, Tammara Rocks, and united as a new family
of four. Neva and Clyde were married for 23 years, until she was
widowed in 1977.
Neva was an active member of the Columbine and Kannah Creek
Cowbells for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her children
and grandchildren, as well as lunching at local restaurants such
as, Texoma and Pufferbelly with family and friends.
She was a kind and loving person with a positive outlook on life
and always brought joy and cheer to those around her.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde,
who passed in 1977, and daughter, Sandra, who passed in 2006.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Tammara Schurr of Grand
Junction, CO; five grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at
1:00 p.m. at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
