three sisters). She was a twin to one of the brothers.
During World War II, she worked in the Arkansas Ordinance Plant
where she made ammunition. She met her husband, Jerry, in Little
Rock, Arkansas, where he was stationed. After the war they moved
to Grand Junction, where she lived for 60 years.
Before moving to Denver, Jean retired from S.H. Kress & Co.,
where she was a personnel manager and floor supervisor. She also
worked for Montgomery Wards as a department manager in Ladies
Fashions, retiring in 1981.
Survivors include daughters, Penny Smith, and Binkie Aubert, both
of Denver; three grandchildren, David (Jeannine) Smith of Fruita;
Kristi Tubbs of Denver, and Audre (Jack) Datz of Napperville, IL;
six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Lucille Burrough in Van Buren,
Arkansas.
A private family service was held at the Municipal Cemetery in
Orchard Mesa, where Jean has been laid to rest next to her husband,
Jerry DeRose.
