Roger J. Sharp
October 25, 1936 – November 2, 2011
Roger J Sharp, 75, died of Cancer
November 2, 2011 at his
home.
Roger was a retired teacher who
taught at Palisade High School for
the last 17 years of his career, retiring
in 1988. His love of teaching
anything to everyone will be
remembered by all who knew
him.
He was born October 25, 1936 in Lamar, Colorado to Van and Alta
Mae (Arnold) Sharp. Roger started his education at Colorado State
College of Education (University of Northern Colorado) where he
met his wife Connie. He finished his education at Adams State College,
completing both a Bachelor and Masters in Secondary Education.
Eventually he accumulated almost enough education to earn a
PhD.
Roger and Connie were married June 7, 1958 and were best
friends, partners, and life-long loves for 53 years. Anyone who saw
them together knew that special smile he had for his "Lady". Roger
and his wife Connie lived in Grand Junction for 42 years.
The family often traveled in whichever camper they had - from a
borrowed 15 foot trailer in which they traveled with three little children
to Florida and back, a motor home, a fifth-wheel, and then a
pickup camper so they could keep going. They traveled all over the
United States, including his dream trip to Alaska being gone for 141
days and fishing his fill. They were some of the original members of
the Lands End Camper group. Up to his final days, if any vehicle
was moving, Dad was ready to go.
After retiring, he became involved in Cowboy Action Shooting and
was known as Arickaree Slim with the Thunder Mountain Shootists.
While Arickaree Slim was not the fastest gun in the West, you did
not want him shooting at you - he seldom missed.
He taught his children and grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors and
shooting. In 2004, when he was undergoing treatment - he gave each
grandchild a .22 rifle and then took them out to the range to teach
each the safest way to use them.
Roger has a brother, Max A Sharp, of Las Animas, Colorado and a
sister, Vada Sharp, of Falcon, Colorado. He and Connie had three
children, daughter, Sherylynn Duvall and husband, Bill of Greeley,
Colorado; son, Brian Sharp and daughter-in-law, Sara of Denver,
Colorado, and son, Bradley Sharp and wife, Cindy of Tujunga, California.
Roger and Connie were blessed with nine grandchildren, Alicia
Frazier, Aaron Rodriguez, Jennifer Sharp, Myndi Hoffman, Marina
Rodriguez, Lyndi Hoffman, Theodore Sharp, Devon Hoffman,
and Kaitlin Sharp. Last year Roger and Connie welcomed their first
great-grandson, Nikolas Frazier.
Roger was preceded in death by parents, Van and Alta Mae Sharp.
Rosary is Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., Callahan-Edfast
