Kal Mickelsen departed this
earth on January 7, 2012, at Palisade
Living Center after losing
his battle with complications from
Parkinson’s disease that he battled
for many years. He was 75 years
old.
Kal was born January 11, 1936
in Sanford, Colorado. He grew up
in Sanford and then fulfilled an
LDS Church Mission in Georgia and South Carolina; following his
mission he attended Mesa Jr. College for his Associates and then
Western State College for his Bachelors and Masters degrees.
Kal enjoyed fishing, kayaking, fishing from his kayaks, hunting,
wood working and carpentry, sewing, geology, math (which he
taught as well as computers), aerospace, and hobbies that involved
building items that required geometry.
Kal started his teaching career at Grand Valley in Parachute, CO,
for one year and taught with School District 51 for 34 years starting
at Bookcliff Junior High and finishing his teaching career at Mt.
Garfield Middle School.
Kal is survived by his sister, Molly (Wallace) Peterson; brother,
Derril “Dutch” (Wilma) Mickelsen; three sons, Todd (Laura), Jan
(Jennifer), and Jeremy; five grandchildren, Camron Mickelsen, Damon
Mickelsen, Fraser Fontane, Shawn Davidson and Cody Bauer.
Kal also has numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and
great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford
and Ella Mickelsen and a granddaughter, Erin Mickelsen.
Services will be held at the LDS Church at 2542 G Road in Grand
Junction on Saturday January 14, 2012 starting at 11:00 a.m. with
burial services to follow at Memorial Gardens.

Services will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday at the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2542
G Road. Burial will follow at Memorial
Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Mickelsen was a teacher.
Survivors include three sons,
Todd of Grand Junction, Jeremy
of Denver and Jan of Broomfi
eld; one brother, Derril “Dutch”
Mickelsen of Sanford; one sister,
Molly Peterson of Syracuse,
Utah; and six grandchildren.
