one sister, Kay Starr of Edina,
Minn.; and seven grandchildren.

Lou Ann Townsend, age 84, of
Delta died January 11, 2012, at
the Delta County Memorial Hospital
of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Lou Ann was born to Alvin and
Evelyn Kayser in Ft. Wayne, Indiana
on October 20, 1927. She
grew up in Ft. Wayne, Indiana
and graduated from Indiana University
with a teaching degree.
She married Jack Fishering in 1950 and they had three children together,
John, Kathy, and Greg. They moved the family to Denver in
1959. The marriage to Jack ended in divorce in 1968 and Lou Ann
continued to raise her children working as a school teacher at North
High School in the Denver Public Schools for 25 years.
Lou Ann married Don Townsend on May 7, 1988 and they opened
and ran a successful canoe guiding service for several years in Tennessee.
They then moved to Delta in 1998 to be near her children.
Lou Ann loved to travel and visited six continents. She was an avid
cross country skier and loved canoeing. She was a gifted teacher
who had many students who have remained in contact over the
years. The lessons she taught have made many lives richer. She was
respected for her ability to offer guidance, wisdom and love to her
family, students, and friends.
Lou Ann leaves behind her husband, Don Townsend of Delta; two
sons, John (Nancy) Fishering and Greg (Priscilla) Fishering both of
Montrose; and her loving daughter, Kathy (Michael) Day of Grand
Junction. She is survived by her grandchildren, Reid, David, Lindsey,
Michelle, Dan, Carolyn, and Rachael. She took each grandchild
on a trip overseas to a country of their choice upon high school
graduation. Other surviving family members include sister, Kay
(Bob) Starr of Edina, Minnesota; and her nephews, Brad and Steve
and their families.
A memorial service honoring Lou Ann's life will be held at 11:00
a.m., Monday, January 16, 2012, at the Delta United Methodist
Church in Delta where she was an active member. A private burial
will take place at the Delta City Cemetery.
