Charles Dale "Chuck" Holmes,
loving husband, father, and friend
passed away on January 16, 2012,
at the VA Medical Center in
Grand Junction, Colorado after a
c o u r a g e o u s b a t t l e w i t h
Alzheimer's. He was 76 years
old.
Chuck was born in St. Louis,
MO to Charles and Myrtle
Holmes. Chuck served our country in the U.S. Army in 1953 and
served until 1955. After returning from the Army he relocated to
Denver, CO where he met the love of his life and best friend, Bernita
Austerman, his wife of 52 years. They married in 1959. Chuck
and Bernita had four children and seven grandchildren whom he
loved more than life itself.
Chuck and his family moved to Grand Junction in 1971. Chuck
managed the local branch of National Cash Register until he became
a real estate broker. Chuck dearly loved working with and
meeting people during his career.
Chuck had many interests and hobbies in his lifetime that included
fishing, hiking, camping, gardening, playing sports, and rock
hounding. He had a great love for all animals and nature. He loved
relaxing and being outdoors in Western Colorado. He rarely went on
any excursions without a pair of binoculars strapped around his neck
so he could marvel at what God had provided for him here on Earth.
Chuck had a great sense of humor and always brought smiles to his
friends and family.
Chuck and Bernita raised four children, Judy Segrest (Kinley) of
Fruita; Susan Baker (Randy) of Littleton; David Holmes of Denver,
and John Holmes (Tracy) of Mesa. He has seven grandchildren,
Tyler, Sabrina, Julia, Sierra, Austin, Macie, and Garrick. He is also
survived by his sister, Charlene Kirby (Duane) of Cottonwood, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Holmes, and
his sister, Thelma Hohbein.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 20th at 10:00
a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow at 1:00
p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Services are entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home of Palisade, Colorado.

Survivors include his wife,
Bernita; two sons, David of
Denver and John of Mesa;
two daughters, Judy Sogrest
of Fruita and Susan Baker of
Littleton; one sister, Charlene
Kirby of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and
seven grandchildren.
