H. “Ben” Jarrad, Jr. passed away
January 18, 2012 of heart failure
at Hospice & Palliative Care of
Western Colorado, surrounded by
his family.
A graduate of Grand Junction
High School, Ben was born in
Salt Lake City, where he spent his
childhood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and
Verena (Robinson) Jarrad of Grand Junction; a son, Kenneth H. Jarrad,
and a great-granddaughter, Reece Jarrad.
Ben is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Steven (Sheron) Jarrad
of Berthoud, CO, and Leon (Saundra) Jarrad of Las Vegas, NV;
a sister, Donna (Jay) Bashara of Grand Junction; three grandchildren,
and five great-grandchildren.
Ben moved from Salt Lake City to Grand Junction in 1943 and he
graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1949. Five years
later, he and Shirley were married and they built their first house on
Rainbow Drive on Orchard Mesa. During his working career, Ben
was a professional glazier in both Grand Junction and, for 24 years,
in Boulder, serving in local and regional manager positions. He was
instrumental in formation of the the Orchard Mesa Little League and
subsequent baseball park. In their later years, Ben and Shirley enjoyed
RVing throughout much of the southwest where they made
many new friends. He delighted in serving as bicycle host on the
Colorado River Trail and watching the antics of humming birds. Ben
eagerly looked forward to scheduled luncheons with his high school
class mates.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012, in
the mausoleum at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens. Arrangements
are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Memorial
