With her loving daughter, Erlinda,
and friends by her side,
Freda passed peacefully into the
arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ.
For 93 years Freda had lived on
this earth - loving and caring for
many family and friends.
Freda was born on September
22, 1918 in Las Animas, CO, to
Maxmillian and Elvira Fernandez.
When she was only one and one
half years old, her mother, father,
and brother, Alfred, were taken
from her by the Influenza Epidemic.
Lovingly, her mother's
sister, Isabel and her husband, Fil
Belarde, took Freda and raised her
as their own - Freda Belarde.
She attended school in Hotchkiss
and then moved to Grand
Junction where she met and married Gregorio Hernandez on June
19, 1937. Together they had five children.
Freda worked for Joe and Dale Prinster. In those 22 years as she
cared for the Prinster's, she came to love them as her "second family".
Freda later worked for St. Mary's Hospital Environmental
Team until she retired.
Freda's greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, her
great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandchildren. She was always
there for them. She loved to cook - everyone liked her tortillas
and green chili. Her favorite TV program, of course, was the cooking
channel.
Freda is preceded in death by her husband, Gregorio; her parents,
Maxmillian and Evira, and Isabel and Fil; her brothers, Alfred, Jake,
and Ruben; her sister, Ruth; two sons, David and Rudy; one stepson,
Paul Hernandez; one daughter, Vera Ann, and two grandsons,
Frankie and Gabriel.
She is survived by her daughter, Erlinda Lovato, and son, Greg,
both of Grand Junction; her stepson, Ben Hernandez of Denver, CO;
and, wondrously, by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and
three great-great-grandchildren.
Freda loved her Lord and often declared "Sangre preciosa de
Christo" (Sweet Blood of Jesus).
Services will be at Martin Mortuary on Saturday, January 28, 2012
with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A
graveside service will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and
guests are invited to join the family for a reception at the VFW on
14th and Ute Avenue.
Memorial contributions can be made to New Visions Assembly of
God, 2934 F 1/4 Rd. 81504, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of
Western Colorado, 3090B N. 12th St., 81506.
