Myrtle McDonald-Smith of
Grand Junction, CO, died Thursday,
January 26, 2012, at home.
She was 95 years of age.
Myrtle was born January 13,
1917 at Arriba, CO to Roy and
Grace (Cook) House. She spent
her childhood at Nathrap, CO and
g r a d u a t e d f r o m S a l i d a H i g h
School. Myrtle received her Registered
Nurse Degree from Colorado Springs Nursing College at
Colorado Springs. Myrtle was married to Roger McDonald who
predeceased her.
Myrtle was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church and of the VFW Auxiliary. She was a lifetime Registered
Nurse working with St. Mary's Hospital and upon retiring she continued
to work at Hospice and volunteered at the V. A. Hospital until
the age of 94. Myrtle also volunteered at Catholic Outreach.
Survivors include sons, Mike McDonald of Glade Park, CO; Paul
McDonald of Fruita, CO, and David McDonald of Grand Junction,
CO; daughters, Eleanor Martin, Janice Giles and Phyliss Barslund,
all of Grand Junction, CO, and Rita Fairborn of Fresno, CA ; 24
grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband
and one son, Bill (William) McDonald preceded her in death.
A rosary will be recited on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. The funeral Mass will be celebrated
on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate
Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church, followed by
burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Ms. McDonald-Smith was a
registered nurse at St. Mary’s
Hospital.
