Calcite, Colorado. Following her
father's death, she was raised by
her mother and stepfather, Epifanio
Garcia, in Salida, Colorado.
She graduated from Salida High
School in 1941 and attended Blair
Business College in Colorado
Springs. She moved to Winter Haven, Florida in 1943 to marry Alfredo
Rubel Martinez, where he was stationed in the Army. Following
Alfredo's discharge from the Army, they returned to Colorado

seven children who all live in Colorado, Linda Wacholtz, Robert
and Steven Martinez of Denver; Virginia Settle (Ed) of Grand Junction;
Patrick Martinez (Anita) of Clifton; Christi Laird (Marc) of
Collbran, and Gary Martinez (Desi) of Palisade. Education was very
important to her and her husband, and all of her children earned
college degrees, each completing some or all of his/her coursework
at Mesa Jr. College/Mesa State College (now CMU). Lorene lovingly
referred to her brood as "The Magnificent Seven". She was

Michaela Martinez.
Lorene was a homemaker who enjoyed visits from family and
friends, cooking, gardening, canning, sewing and knitting. She was
active in her church, the Church of God, A World Wide Association,
and she looked forward to worship and fellowship with her faith
community.
