Delbert “Deb” Pritchard
August 5, 1926 – November 7, 2011
Delbert “Deb” Pritchard of De-
Beque, CO passed away early
Monday morning, November 7,
2011 at the Veteran’s Community
Living Center. His loving
family had been with him each
day for several weeks since he
became ill.
At his request, cremation has
taken place. A memorial service
will be held at the Open Bible Fellowship Church in DeBeque on
Monday, November 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jacob Duran
officiating.
Delbert Lewis Pritchard was born to Lewis Pritchard and Myrtle
Campbell Pritchard on August 5, 1926 in Dexter, IA. His early years
were spent in Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas.
Deb served his country in WWII, from 1944 - 1946. He was a
driver for a Colonel in Graves Registration in the European Theater.
On June 20, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Leona
“Faye” at Hatfield, Missouri. She survives. They celebrated their
63rd wedding anniversary this year.
Deb and Faye began their lives together in Maryville, MO. They
lived in Grant City, MO before moving to DeBeque in 1967. He and
his brother, Ed, owned and operated Pritchard’s Garage in DeBeque
for many years.
The brothers hunted and fished every chance they could. They built
an air boat and had lots of fun riding on the Colorado River.
In the early 1980’s, Deb built the Roan Creek Bar and Cafe where
the old Drug Store had been. It took him seven years to complete.
He later sold it to the Town of DeBeque, and it’s now the Wild
Horse Community Center.
Deb was a member of Open Bible Fellowship and the Masonic
Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Faye of DeBeque; two daughters,
Deborah (Pat) McCloskey of Huntingdon, PA, and Janet Nichols of
DeBeque; two sisters, Evaleen (Hugh) Barnhouse of Hatfield, MO,
and Beulah (Darrell) Weigart of Marion, KS; one foster sister, Beulah
Dean (Doyle) Helton of Easton, MO; four grandchildren, Ben III
(Wendy) Nichols of Molina, CO; Rebecca Schowalter of Collbran,
CO; Danielle (Jeff) Nottingham of Grand Junction, CO, and Katie
(Jeremy) Mumau of Commodore, PA; eight great-grandchildren,
Justin, Tristin, Jerome, and Haylee Nichols; Amanda, Miranda, and
Brendon Schowalter, and McKenzie Mumau; sister-in-law, Elaine
Pritchard of Grand Junction, CO; many other family members, a
host of friends, and his faithful companion, Rascal.
Deb was preceded in death by his brother, Ed, in 2003.
A private interment will be held later in the day at the Veteran’s
Memorial Park in Grand Junction.
