Richard “Dick” Snoddy of Rifle
died of complications due to a
stroke on Saturday, November
5th, 2011 at his home in Rifle
with family at his side. He was
93.
Richard Snoddy was born in
Truckton, Colorado on March
13th, 1918. He was the son of
Charles Snoddy and Margaret
Jones and was the youngest of three siblings. Richard spent his
school years in Colorado Springs and upon graduating High School
went to live with his family in New Castle, Colorado where his father
was a mechanic. The family eventually moved to Rifle, Colorado
where he would spend the rest of his life. Richard married
Mary Brennan in Grand Junction, Colorado on June 3rd, 1939 and
was a loving husband until Mary’s passing in 2005. They were married
for 66 years and raised three children.
Richard was part of the Greatest Generation and served in the army
during the latter part of WWII. He was an accomplished welder and
machinist for Union Carbide in Rifle where he worked for over 30
years until a lung ailment forced him to retire. He loved to go out
dancing with Mary and their friends, sing and play his guitar at rodeos,
and fish when he had the time. He spent most of his retirement
wood working at his cabin he built on the Brennan Ranch in
Piceance Creek. Richard had a strong faith in God and was a devout
parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rifle.
Richard is survived by son Ronald and wife Terry of California;
daughter, Dixie and husband David of Grand Junction; son, Joseph
and wife Phyllis of Glenwood Springs; grandchildren, Brian and
Brad, Bill and Lisa, Josh and Luke, and 10 great grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, and siblings Robert
and Lenora.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Richard’s life will be held at St.
Stephen Catholic Church in Glenwood on Saturday, November 12th,
officiated by Fr. Robert Hehn at 11:00 a.m. following a Rosary service
to begin at 10:30 a.m.
