Ellie Crocker, 24, died May 30 with her family by her side at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction.

She was born Nov. 25, 1987, in Denver to Jon and Jeanie Crocker. The family resided in Eagle for most of Ellie's life. Ellie attended Eagle County schools and graduated from Eagle Valley High School in 2007. The family moved to Grand Junction in 2008 to be closer to relatives.

Ellie thrived on learning, and in spite of her disability, she lived her life with purpose and simplicity. She enjoyed reading, playing video games, doing puzzles and volunteering at the hospital.

She will be remembered for the love and care she gave to family and friends, her genuine enjoyment of the little things in life, her determination and courage when faced with insurmountable obstacles, and her smile.

Ellie is survived by her mother, Jeanie Crocker; her father, Jon Crocker; her sister, Molly Crocker; her paternal grandmother, Shirley Ann Crocker; her maternal step-grandmother, Bettye Leeper; her aunt, Nancy, aunt Gail, uncle Tim, aunt Jane, uncle Dick, and seven great cousins who she called her best friends; along with many other close relatives.

A private service will be held in Ellie's honor; email jcrocker@q.com for details. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Organization for Disorders of the Corpus Callosum or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
