James P. Stortz, 1978-2012.

Friends and family of Dr. Jim Stortz, who passed away Monday, have shared their thoughts and memories about him in recent days. Storz was a veterinarian and partner at the Vail Valley Animal Hospital with locations in Eagle-Vail and Edwards. His friends and family adored him and thought highly of him. Here are some excerpts of what they had to say:

“Jim, over the past several days, there has been a monumental outpouring of people who loved you, people who knew you, people who respected you, people who worked with you and the many people who looked up to you. They were always there, but this is different. All those people will miss you dearly, my friend. We hope you know how people adored you, the effect you had on our lives and how we all wish you were here to share those memories with us. Jim, you affected all our lives, in so many ways.”

“Jim was beyond a great son. Jim was a great brother and uncle. Jim was a brilliant veterinarian and a true lover of animals. Jim loved his Georgia Bulldogs and Widespread Panic. Jim loved the (Atlanta) Braves. Jim was an expert skier. Jim did not care for University of Florida. Jim did not like Tim Tebow. Him was a sweaty mess at times and we loved him for it. Jim could have cared less about material possessions; he was more interested in helping his friends and family. What you saw was what you got with Jim. He never put on airs and avoided those who did so. Jim was a quiet and thoughtful giant. Jim was hilarious. Jim loved Jethro Tull. Over all things, Jim was a dear friend to all who knew and loved him, and he loved us right back.”

“Jim, we will all miss you dearly. Words cannot express the loss we all feel not having you here with us. However, we will always cherish the times we had with you.”

“Jim, we hope you find what you were looking for. We will never forget you, and will always love you.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim's name to Eagle County Animal Services, PO Box 57, Eagle, CO 81631. To contact Eagle County Animal Services about making a donation, call 970-328-3647, 970-963-2948, or email animalservices@eaglecounty.us.
