Man dies in ATV crash Saturday.

EAGLE — A Gypsum man is dead after an ATV crash Saturday evening on Hardscrabble Road outside of Eagle.

Marcus Matthews, 40, of Gypsum, died at the scene of the accident, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities received an emergency call at about 7:30 p.m. that a man had crashed an ATV about seven miles up Hardscrabble Road. The man fell about 100 feet down an embankment, and friends were trying to resuscitate him, police were told.

Rescuers from Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Vail Mountain Rescue Group attempted to save Matthews, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to the Eagle County Coroner's Office, the cause of death remains under investigation pending an autopsy.

MARCUS LAWRENCE MATTHEWS, OF EAGLE.
Marcus Lawrence MATTHEWS, 40, of Eagle and formerly of Syracuse, N.Y., passed away July 7 from injuries suffered in an ATV accident in Eagle. Marcus grew up in the Syracuse area and later moved to Brewert, N.Y., where he attended Paul V. Moore High School. He also attended Onondaga Community College and SUNY Brockport.
A welder by trade, Marcus owned and operated Iron Lion Welding in Eagle.
Marcus enjoyed many hobbies including music, motor sports, hiking, mountain biking and scuba diving. He was very social and loved spending time with his many friends enjoying the outdoors. What he looked forward to the most, however, was spending as much time as he could with his beloved son, Kingston.
Marcus was preceded in death by his grandparents Stanley and Dorothy BLASKIEWICZ, formerly of Syracuse, N.Y.
He is survived by his son and the love of his life, Kingston MATTHEWS, of Denver, his mother, Barbara BLASKIEWICZ CULOTTI and stepfather Lawrence CULOTTI, of Port Byron, N.Y., a stepsister, Christine FLORCZYK (Donald) and a niece and nephew of North Syracuse, aunts, uncles, cousins and many wonderful friends.
Private services were held at the Everett Family Funeral in Eagle. A celebration of Marcus' life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at 411 Violet Lane, Eagle.
