Obituaries

Eagle Valley Enterprise page 11 - July 12, 2012

John “Sid” Sidney Wheelock passed away at his home June 18, with his wife, Dana, and his boys, Zack and Zed, by his side.

He was born in Denver March 2, 1962. When he was 2 years old, his family moved to Hyannis, Neb., to live on the Wheelock-Manning ranch. When he was 5, his folks bought a ranch in Burns.

His first horse was a big work horse, the only time he didn't need help getting on it was when there was an ornery cow close by, then he could climb right up his leg into the saddle.

His dad taught him how to hunt, he became an excellent hunter with the rifle and bow. He got his first deer when he was 9 years old.

When he was 16, he spent the summer on a ranch in Wyoming. After graduation from high school he became a farrier and broke horses and worked on ranches near Hayden.

In 1984, John married Dana Gingrich. Together they had two children, Zackary and Zed. They were married almost 28 years. He taught his children the love of hunting, fishing, and bow hunting. He worked at the Hayden Power Plant for 22 years as a welder/mechanic. He enjoyed his family and friends, and will be greatly missed. “Sid” was preceded in death by his sister, Tabbie Lynn, and is survived by his parents, Sidney and Thalla Wheelock.
