Lena Sansosti Yost peacefully passed away at the age of 84 on July 18. She was surrounded by her husband and daughters after her courageous battle with cancer. She is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, George (Grand Junction); two daughters, Roxie (Rich) Deane of Eagle, and Raenette (Bill) Johnson of Eagle; four grandchildren, Cindy (John) Ramunno of Eagle, Debby (Ron) Beard of Eagle, Cassie Johnson of Denver, and Andy Johnson of Dillon; and four great-grandchildren, Hayley Beard, Rick Ramunno, Mike Ramunno and Jaycey Beard, all of Eagle. She is also survived by her two devoted and loved sisters, Betty Bull of Cedar City, UT, and Gloria (Johnnie) Toniolli of Colorado Springs, along with two nieces and three nephews.
Born in Salida Aug. 31, 1927, to Frank and Frances Sansosti, Angela Marie was lovingly referred to as “Little Lena” by everyone around her. The name stuck, and she legally changed her name to Lena as an adult. The oldest of three girls, Lena spent her early years in Wolcott, where she would fearlessly hunt and fish with her dad. She also became an accomplished accordionist as her father consistently took her to Denver for lessons, learning from the famed Earnest Bonvicini.
Lena met the love of her life while working as a teller at 1st National Bank in Glenwood Springs. George Yost walked in and stole her heart. The two married on Dec. 4, 1946, and shared a lifetime love that very few get to experience. Moving around for George's job, and through activities that included tennis and bowling, Lena always generously welcomed new friends into her life while remaining close with her old friends. Though hard workers, she and George led entertaining social lives, having fun no matter where they were, or who they were with. They enjoyed having so many wonderful friends.
Those who knew Lena say she was the epitome of a ‘glass is half-full' person, always having a positive outlook and providing inspiring encouragement for others suffering from cancer. She had a sense of humor and lived her life with joy and a twinkle in her eye. It was always evident that she adored her husband as well as her entire family, and she set a wonderful example of a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and woman. She was an eternal optimist and her smile could light up any room. She lived her life with enormous beauty, integrity and grace. She created a harmonious environment, no matter the situation. She was kind, sweet, and lived life with a full, generous heart, but wasn't above a little bit of mischief. Her unwavering beliefs led her to pray daily and faithfully for all, and she rarely missed a Sunday mass at St. Mary's in Eagle.
The funeral mass was at St. Mary's Church in Eagle July 21. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Lena's memory to the Alpine Home Health and Hospice, 1316 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601.
