Andrew C. (Skeeter) Gustafson died on February 8, 2012, in Grand
Junction, CO. He was 83.
Skeeter was born at home on the 12th of April, 1928, at the
Gustafson ranch on Mamm Creek, Colorado, to Adolf Gustafson
and Nellie Myrtle (Higday) Gustafson.
He attended school on Mamm Creek and at Rifle, CO. On Sept 16,
1956, he married Gloria Cothran in Grand Junction CO. Together,
they had three children. He worked at the Thompson Creek mine in
Carbondale, Aspen Ski Corp. in Aspen CO, and Casey concrete in
Rifle, CO.
Andy was a talented musician who played in many local bands
through the years. His lifelong love of music began as a small child
when he and his brothers, sponsored by the Glenwood Lion’s Club,
played at Lion’s Club events across the state. His sisters later joined
the band and the “Gustafson Hillbilly Orchestra” was born.
He is survived by his wife Gloria; sons, Andy Gustafson (Brenda)
of Craig CO, John Gustafson (Julie) of Cedar City, UT; a daughter,
Dianna Akin of Grand Junction, CO; seven grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren; a brother Albert Gustafson of Albuquerque,
NM, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by
his parents, brothers Harold Gustafson and Alfred Gustafson, and
sisters Alma Nobles and Alta Rey.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, at Shepard of
the Valley Lutheran Church.
