Sylvan Gross, beloved father
and grandfather, died February
14, of natural causes. It was appropriate
that Sylvan was called
to Heaven on Valentine's Day, as
his beloved wife of 57 years,
Marge, was waiting to greet him
there.
Sylvan was born to John and
Cora Gross in the hills of Arkansas
on Independence Day 1918, and he moved with his family to
Grand Junction when he was a young boy. Sylvan's family was very
involved with the Assembly of God Church at Fourth and Grand in
Grand Junction beginning in the 1930’s. It was through the Assembly
of God youth group, Christ Ambassadors, that he met and fell in
love with Marge Nicholson, who on May 24, 1941, he made his
bride. Together they raised three children, David, Larry and Sheryl.
During World War II Sylvan served his country as an electrician in
the Navy shipyards at Long Beach, CA, helping to keep the Pacific
fleet in fighting shape. With the conclusion of the war, Sylvan and
Marge returned to Grand Junction, where Sylvan had a long career
as an electrician working for Kendall Electric. He was a proud
member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and
continued to attend the same Assembly of God Church he was raised
in until a few years ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge and his sisters, Dana,
Freda and Reba. He is survived by his brother, Dale Gross, Galt,
CA, and his children, Dave (Shirley) Gross, Grand Junction; Larry
(Patty) Gross, Grand Junction, and Sheryl Marking, Clarksville, TN;
as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 22 at 10:00
a.m. at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2970 North
Avenue. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice
and Palliative Care of Western Colorado.

Sylvan L. Gross, 93, Grand
Junction, died Feb. 14, 2012, at
Mesa Manor Care Center.
Mr. Gross was an electrician
for Kendall Electric.
Services will be at 10 a.m. to-
day at Grand Junction Memo-
rial Gardens.
Survivors include two sons,
David and Larry, both of Grand
Junction; one daughter, Sheryl
Marking of Clarksville, Tenn.;
one brother Dale Gross of Galt,
Calif.; five grandchildren; and
10 great-grandchildren.
