Alva Dotson passed away on February 20, 2012, at the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center after a long illness, he was 86.
Alva was born on January 4, 1926, in Coates, Kansas from the
union of Bessie and Cecil Dotson. He graduated from Canon City
High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII on
the destroyer U.S.S. Owens in the Pacific theater. After the war Alva
worked as a Grocery Clerk and Manager for Safeway, Millers and
King Soopers Supermarkets. He was a member of the Pear Park
Baptist Church in Grand Junction and an avid fisherman.
Alva leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Della Dotson; sons, Glenn
(Beverly) Dotson of Fort Worth, TX, and James Dotson of Grand
Junction, CO; grandchildren, Deirdre (Jarrod) Tunnell of Ulysses,
Kansas; Dana Dotson of Dallas, TX, and Derek Dotson of Norman,
OK, and one great-grandchild, Brielle Tunnell.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 24,
2012, at Martin Mortuary. Committal services and military honors
will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday at the Veteran’s Memorial Cem-
etery of Western Colorado.
