Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday at Faith Heights
Church with burial to follow at
Grand Junction Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Genova was a construction
foreman.
Survivors include his wife,
Emila; one son, Richard of
Grand Junction; one daughter,
Barbara Genova of Grand Junction;
one sister, Elizabeth Phelps
of Pueblo; five grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.

Anthony W "Tony" Genova
passed away peacefully in the
Community Living Center of the
G r a n d J u n c t i o n V A Me d i c a l
Center on February 26, 2012,
with family by his side. He was
96.
Tony was born April 9, 1915, in
Pueblo, CO, the second son of
Giacomo and Maria Taravella
G e n o v a . H e mo v e d t o G r a n d
Junction in 1934 during the Great
Depression to work for the Civilian
Conservation Corps to build
infrastructure at the Colorado National
Monument. Of his pay of
$ 3 0 a m o n t h , $ 2 5 w e n t b a c k
home to his family.
He married Wilma Merle Simmons
of Grand Junction in 1942.
Tony enlisted in the Army in
early 1942 to serve in WWII.
Merle and Tony relocated to San Jose, CA where they celebrated the
birth of their son, Myron "Mike" Genova. Tony served as an artillery
training sergeant at Camp Roberts in California before he
shipped overseas to Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. After the war
ended, they all moved back to Grand Junction where their children,
Barbara and Richard were born. Tony owned, managed, and worked
in many different enterprises throughout the years. He finally retired,
hale and hearty, from Elam Construction at age 72 in 1987.
He served as long-time loving caregiver for his wife Merle before
she passed away in 1992.
He found love again after that with Emila McKee and they married
in 1994.
Tony's many friends and family will remember him fondly for his
keen interests in anything to do with automobiles, dancing, card
games, and being together for good times with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joe, Dominic,
and Sam; his sister, Mary; his wife, Merle, and their son,
Mike Genova.
Tony is survived by his daughter-in-law, Doralyn Brodak Genova;
his daughter, Barbara Genova, and his son, Richard (Marjorie)
Genova, all of Grand Junction, CO. He is also survived by his sister,
Elizabeth Phelps of Pueblo, CO. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren
also survive Tony. They are Anthony (Debi) Genova (with
their daughters, Giselle and Gabrielle); Nicholas Genova; Dominic
(Nastasia) Genova; Marcus (Kelly) Genova (with their son, Alexander)
and Alan (Alyce) Genova. He is also survived by his wife,
Emila Genova and her children and grandchildren. Her children are
Karen (John) Healy; Debbie (Robert) Younger; Randy (Julie) Reid;
Shella (Mike) Pittsinger; Shelly (Joel) Current; Sherry (Joe) Garrison,
and Justin (Jennifer) Reid. Her son, Paul (Ann) is deceased.
A viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Friday,
March 2, 2012, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services for Tony will
be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012, 1:30 p.m., at Faith Heights
Church, 600 28 1?4 Road, Grand Junction, CO. Interment will follow
at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
