Mary Elizabeth Coffey, age 89,
went to be with the Lord on Monday,
April 16, 2012, while living
near family in Zion, Illinois.
She was born in Pana, Illinois,
on October 8, 1922. Mary married
Warren Coffey on February
3, 1951, in Los Angeles, California.
She spent the next 38 years
working as a secretary in California
and Washington while following and supporting Warren’s education
and teaching. Upon retiring, they spent time in Prescott, Arizona,
before returning to Western Colorado in 1989. In 1999, they
settled in Grand Junction, Warren’s home town.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Coffey; her
brother, Albert Inman, and two sisters, Oneita Casey and Virginia
Lyons. Survivors include three nephews, one niece, many
great-nieces and nephews, as well as a host of good friends.
Because of Mary’s strong faith and loving spirit, she was loved by
many, including her bridge playing friends. Mary was a gentle soul
who loved people; she will be missed.
A memorial will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27
1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO on Friday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m.
Memorial donations to First Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers
would be appreciated. Mary’s ashes will be placed with her
husband’s at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction.
