Audrey Babbel, 70, Grand Junction, died April 21, 2012, at her
home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Martin Mortuary.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be
at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Mrs. Babbel was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; four sons, Kevin VanVelzen,
John Babbel, Paul Babbel and Seth Babbel; two daughters,
Dawn Krolczyk and Keli Frasier; her father, Howard Cooper; seven
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Audrey went into the arms of the
Lord in her Grand Junction, CO
home while under the care of
Hospice for colon cancer.
Audrey was born as an only
child to Howard and Mary Coop
e r i n M u s k e g o n , M i c h i g a n
where she is survived by her
daughter, Dawn Krolczyk and her
husband, Dennis; her son, Kevin
VanVelzen; her grandchildren, Brent Krolczyk and wife, Tonya;
D u s t i n V a n v e l z e n a n d K e d r i c k V a n V e l z e n a s w e l l a s h e r
great-grandchildren, Trent, Angel, and Kyrian Krolczyk.
Audrey's love of travel and adventure led her to marry her husband,
Gene Babbel, at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He
survives her in Colorado along with her father, Howard Cooper (98);
her daughter, Keli Frasier and husband, Don; and sons, John Babbel;
Paul Babbel and his partner, Michael Lewis, and Seth Babbel as
well as her grandchildren, Nathan and Nicolas Babbel and Samantha
and Evan Frasier. Audrey is also survived by many aunts, uncles
and cousins across the country. Audrey was preceded in death by
her mother, Mary Cooper; Aunt Ruth Hieftje and numerous other
aunts and uncles.
Audrey never met a stranger, and everyone who met her instantly
fell in love with her sense of humor, her patriotism, love of God, and
her kind and beautiful heart. Audrey volunteered as often as she
could. As a military wife, she helped incoming families get settled
on base along with many other duties that earned her "Volunteer of
the Year" wherever the Air Force sent her and her family. Audrey is
well remembered for her activity with the local military support
group, Home Front Heroes. She was a vital part of their organization
and a major comfort to the soldiers she supported.
Audrey will be loved, and missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Martin Mortuary
from 5 - 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Martin
Mortuary on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., with burial to
follow at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 1:00
p.m.
