Richard “Dick” Thornton, 87, Grand Junction, died April 22,
2012, at Mesa Manor.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of
Western Colorado.
Mr. Thornton was an electrician.
Survivors include three sons, David of Grand Junction, Daniel
of St. George, Utah, and Richard of Delta; one daughter, Margaret
Ceballos of Sacramento, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.

Richard passed away on Sunday
April 22, 2012, at the age of 87.

Washington and grew up in Los
Angeles, California. He entered
the Navy during World War II
right after high school and became
an electrician. After the
war, he worked in the aerospace industry in California. When he
moved to Western Colorado, he worked in the mining industry for
20 years. He married and had four children. Richard was an avid
amateur radio operator. He loved to chat with his friends from
around the world. He was a master mechanic and could often be
found under the hood. He loved fixing things and making them more
efficient whether it was cars, appliances or other gadgets. Richard
was always willing to lend a hand to friends when things were not
working right.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Zuleica) Thornton of Utah;
Rick (Bev) Thornton of Colorado; David (Michele) Thornton of
Colorado; Margaret (Vince) Ceballos of California; a special niece,
Kandi (Nigel) Christian-Blackwell of California, for whom he was
legal guardian; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is
preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carl, and his grandsons,
Nathan and Zachary.
Services will include a viewing Monday, April 30, 2012, at 10:00
a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary located at 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, Colorado.
Interment will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of
Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction at 1:00
p.m.
Richard's family would like to thank those who cared for him during
the past two years. A special thanks to our friends from Alpine
Hospice.
