Saturday, March 3, 2012, Steve
slipped peacefully from the bonds
of this earth at his home after a
long and courageous battle with
MS.
Steve was born September 12,
1946, in Nacogdoches, Texas to
Herman D. and Sue (Conway)
McCallum. He spent his childhood
traveling with his military
family and as a young adult settled in Grand Junction. There, he
started his long list of life accomplishments, including owning Anchor
Marine, Grand Mesa Marine, TPI Industrial, Cottonwood Mall
and many other real estate and business ventures. Steve always believed
in the power of the individual to be self-reliant, helping all he
knew to do the same. His motto in life was "Tell me it can't be done,
and I will show you how to do it!" There was no mold made that
could contain his ambition and creativity. While his life's accomplishments
were many, his greatest treasures came from spending
time with his grandchildren, creating priceless memories and
homemade trinkets. His enjoyment was re-building vintage midget
and sprint cars, antique vehicles, steam engines and tractors that led
him to have a wonderful collection that many people toured and enjoyed.
Those of us that knew him were wiser people for it; he will be
missed greatly and remembered often.
Steve is survived by his wife and business partner of 46 years, Bobette
D. (Murphy) McCallum; children, Christian S. McCallum
(Julie), and Tracy M. Masias (Robbie); grandchildren, Danielle,
Elizabeth and Madyson Masias, and Devyn and Colton McCallum;
three siblings, Dorothy Magruder (Mike); Michael C. McCallum
( L i n d a ) , a n d B a r b a r a F o x ; 1 1 n i e c e s a n d n e p h e w s ; ma n y
great-nieces and great-nephews; his favorite uncle, Jack McCallum
(Diane) from Florida, and his long time close friend and caregiver,
Hector Olivas.
In lieu of flowers, Steve's family requests donations be made to
Hospice and Palliative Care.
A private grave-side service will be held.
Services are entrusted to Fruita Funeral Home of Fruita, CO.
