Margery Oneta Henke, 91, Grand Junction, died March 19,
2012, at Hospice Care Center.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Mrs. Henke was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur of Grand Junction; two
sons, Donald of Goshen, Va., and Ralph of Fruita; one daughter,
Shannon Sompayrac of Fruita; seven grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.

Margery Oneta Henke was born

Diedrich. Margery spent her
childhood in Raymondville and
Yukon, MO. She moved with her
family to Glenwood Springs, CO
in 1936, where she met Arthur
Henke. Margery married Arthur
on August 23, 1940, in Price, UT. They resided in Glenwood
Springs and Minturn, CO. Before Arthur served in WWII they
moved to Salida, CO. Margery held down the home front and continued
to raise their first two children. Upon Arthur's return from his
military service they continued to reside in Salida and raised three
children there. Later on, they moved with the Denver and Rio
Grande Western Railroad to Denver, CO, Salt Lake City, Provo, and
Helper, UT. Their last stop before retirement was Pueblo, CO.
Upon retirement they chose Grand Junction as their home base as
they traveled around the United States, Canada, and Mexico with a
few wonderful trips to the Cayman Islands and Central America.
She always made it a point to take part in her favorite past times of
enjoying time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In particular, she loved family picnics, camping, and holiday
dinners. Although Margery's main career was wife, mother, and
homemaker, she also enjoyed her roles as a telephone operator, J.C.
Penny employee, and Avon representative at times throughout her
life.
Margery is survived by her husband, Arthur of 71 years; her
daughter, Shannon and son-in-law, William Sompayrac of Fruita,
CO; her sons, Donald Henke of Goshen, VA, and Ralph Henke of
Fruita, CO; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her sister, Evon Hobbs.
An open memorial service is being held on Monday, March 26,
2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Private graveside
services will follow at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western
Colorado in Grand Junction, CO.
