James B. Cavanagh, age 63, of
Omaha, Nebraska, died March 12,
2012.
He was born July 7, 1948 in
I o wa City , I o wa . T h e family
moved to Grand Junction in 1965.
Jim graduated from Grand High
School Class of 1966, Creighton
University Class of 1970, and
cum laude from Creighton School
of Law in 1974.
Married 31 years, his wife, Cheri and their children, Matt (Kelley),
Dan (Tara), and Sara were most important to Jim. Family came first.
Jim had more than 37 years of experience as a business and trial
lawyer. He was named Litigation-Bankruptcy Lawyer of the Year in
Omaha in 2012. President for 20 years of the law firm Lieben,
Whitted, Houghton, Slowiaczek & Cavanagh, Jim was a trusted
mentor to young lawyers.
Jim was a kind, loving person, a friend to many and a great fisherman
on the annual Colorado family camp trips that numbered over
25. We will toast you over the campfire and keep your blarney alive.
Jim’s life was celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day with family and
friends gathered for his funeral. He will forever be in the hearts of
many.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Cheri and children, all in Omaha; parents,
Paul and Peg Cavanagh of Grand Junction; siblings, Paul, Tom
of Grand Junction; Mike (Teri) of Palisade; Tim of Arlington, WA;
Mary Cavanagh and Sharon (Dan) Geherin of Grand Junction, and
numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
sister, Terry Kline, and sister-in-law, Christina Cavanagh.
