Charles B. BURRIS was born in Pike county, Ohio, July 2, 1857, and died after a sudden illness of a few hours on April 5, 1937, at Eagle, Colo., bringing to a close a life of hard work, and with the satisfaction that all the members of his family were well established in homes of their own. In 1884, he was married to Melissa LINTON, in Jackson county, Ohio, there being born to this union four children. In 1896, his wife departed this life, leaving to his care the four children. In the year 1900, he again married, also a lady of Jackson county, Ohio, Miss Margaret HELBIG, and to this union were born two boys, Emmerson and John.
Most of his life was spent in Ohio, serving his fellow men as a miner of coal, in which he endured many hardships in order that others might have the comforts of life. Then, as a teamster, he learned the managing of horses and was interested in their care, rather than the abuse of animals. Later in life farming became his work, and for the past eighteen years, he has been living in the mountains at Eagle.
His departure of this life leaves to mourn his death the following children: Mrs. Bessie ARNOLD, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. John VAN HORN, Eagle, Colo.; Mrs. Harry WATSON, Eagle, Colo.; Emmerson BURRIS, Springfield, Ohio; and John BURRIS, Eagle, Colo. One sister, Mrs. Sadie SHELTON, lives in Bethany, Ohio, and two brothers, Bilton and John BURRIS, at Ray, Ohio. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild join with the immediate family in this loss.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of Mortician Paul ANDRE, and the services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church in Eagle, where Rev. T. B. McDIVITT delivered a fitting discourse on the frailities and uncertainties of life. During the services Mesdames Harry S. DICKERSON and Alvin RULE sang a number of selections. After the church services the body of the deceased was taken to Gypsum was laid to rest in Cedar Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were Hans LARSEN, Don BAILEY, Charles EATON, Oliver DAVIS, Fred COWDEN, John CLARK>
