Mount, North Carolina on August
27, 1944, to Joseph and
Joyce Ricks. Brenda graduated
from cosmetology school in Raleigh,
NC. She used her cosmetology skills to enrich the lives of
cancer survivors by designing wigs for them. Brenda's passion was
working with the women's prison in Rocky Mount, teaching women
who were being released how to dress and present themselves for
job interviews. Brenda and her mother taught the women secretarial
skills in the hopes that a successful career would bring prosperity in
other areas of their lives.
Brenda attended Wesleyan College and participated in the in-depth
Bible study program there. She attended art school and was an accomplished
painter in both oil and watercolors. Another love of
Brenda's was the Tar River Symphony and Chorus, where she sang
soprano for ten years.
After the death of her parents, Brenda moved to Colorado to be
with her sister, Becky. Brenda lived in Colorado for eight years and
thoroughly enjoyed being with her family and friends. Brenda was a
devoted member of her community and took time to spend with
those in need. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian
Church in Grand Junction.
Brenda is survived by her sisters, Becky (John) Cornett of Collbran,
CO, and Patricia (Ron) Roach of Pickens, SC, as well as their
children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Brenda was preceded
in death by her parents, Joseph A Ricks and Joyce Jones
Ricks and her grandparents, Duncan and Mary Jones, both of Rocky
Mount, NC.
A memorial service was held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on
Thursday, June 28, 2012, in Grand Junction, CO. Graveside services
were held Saturday, June 30, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in
Pickens, SC where she will join her parents.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make donations to Plateau Valley
Hospice and Palliative Care.
She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched with
her grace, kindness and Southern Charm. She was a true southern
belle to the end.

Brenda Joyce Ricks, 67, Grand Junction, died June 25, 2012, at
Community Hospital.
A service is 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Interment
is Monday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Pickens, S.C.
Ms. Ricks was a cosmetologist.
Survivors include two sisters, Rebecca “Becky” Cornett of Collbran,
and Penny Roach of Pickens, S.C.
