Charles Louis “Lou” Myers, of
Grand Junction, Colorado, died
July 7, 2012, surrounded by his
loving family in his home, after a
courageous and hard fought battle
with leukemia. He was 77 years
old.
Lou was born on April 29, 1935,
to Charles and Violet Myers in Delta, Colorado. Lou and his
brother, Stan grew up in Grand Junction and graduated from Grand
Junction High School.
Lou earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in science from the
University of Denver. He then married his life-long sweetheart, of
53 years, Jeanette Myers. Lou and Jeanette had three children,
Brian, Barry, and Denise. Lou graduated from dental school at Marquette
University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then served his
country as a Captain in the Army Dental Corps, stationed in Fort
Knox, Kentucky. He was passionate about dentistry, teaching, and
his country. Lou was the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program at
Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colorado
and was later a Professor and Chairman of Dental Materials at the
Marquette University Dental School. He also worked as a research
dentist in Delaware to create new dental products and later owned a
private dental practice in Grand Junction.
Lou and Jeanette moved their family back to Grand Junction in
1979, where they raised their children and formed many cherished
friendships and memories in a community they loved. Lou concluded
his career practicing dentistry at the Veterans Administration
Hospital in Grand Junction and was saddened to retire for health
reasons. He loved providing service to the men and women who
served their country and found his greatest happiness in life when he
was working. He received numerous awards and recognitions in
dentistry but was especially proud of the "Hands and Heart Award"
presented to him by the Secretary of Veteran's Affairs.
Lou was a devoted family man and outdoorsman who loved
spending time with his family. He loved camping, fishing and riding
his ATV in the mountains. Lou made many friends in the Grand
Junction ATV club. In more recent years, he enjoyed flying his
model airplanes at Long's Park and four wheeling in his jeep.
Lou is survived by his brother, Stan Myers (Dixie); wife, Jeanette
Myers; sons, Brian Myers (Carol); Barry Myers (Kerri), and daughter,
Denise Krispin (John). He is also survived by his grandchildren,
Ryan, Dylan, Megan, Garrett, Evan, and Danyelle. He was preceded
in death by his mother and father.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Lou's life at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Friday, July 13, 2012, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice
& Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice
& Palliative Care of Western Colorado who provided service
and support when it was needed the most.
