Donna Jean Davis, age 78,
passed away from pancreatic cancer
in the Horizon’s Health Care
Center on Wednesday, July 11,
2012.
Donna was born in Durango,
Colorado on June 10, 1934 to Farrell
and Fern (McGuigan) Lee.
She grew up in the Durango and
Ignacio area during the Great Depression,
then moved to Roswell, New Mexico where her father
worked as an airplane mechanic during World War II. After the
war, the family moved to Grand Junction where Donna graduated
from Central High School in 1952. Following graduation, Donna
attended Intermountain Bible College and Western State College.
During high school she began dating Vern C. Davis. They were
married in Clifton, Colorado on June 19, 1955.
Between 1955 and 2012, Donna, and their growing family, lived
in Grand Junction, New York City, Walsh, Colorado, and Craig,
Colorado. After Vern retired they moved to Hotchkiss in 1991.
In the 1950’s, Donna worked as a secretary for the Atomic Energy
Commission in Grand Junction. After taking some time off to raise
her children, she accepted a job as a paraprofessional for the Moffat
County School District until her youngest child was born. When he
began attending school, Donna was hired as the secretary for the
First Christian Church in Craig, a job she held until the move to
Hotchkiss.
In 1971, Donna received the “Mother of the Year” award from the
Craig Daily Press. Not only was Donna a super mom to five kids,
she was also a great cook, wonderful painter, excellent sewer, marvelous
scrap booker and an incomparable wife.
Outside the home, Donna was a member of the First Christian
Church Choir, Mites Society and the Great Divide Community Club
in Craig. After moving to Hotchkiss, she became a member of the
Rogers Mesa Modern Woman’s Club, Grand Mesa RV Campers, the
Hotchkiss Music and Art Club, the Valley Symphony Chorus and
the North Fork Community Chorus.
Donna is survived by her husband, Vern of Hotchkiss; daughters:
Liane (Rich Kling) Davis-Kling of Craig and Gayle (Chuck) Powell
of Denver; sons: Tad (Cindy) Davis of Peyton, Colorado; Blaine
Davis of Centennial and Errol (Amanda) Davis currently living in
Seattle, Washington; brother, Kenneth (Frankie) Lee of Grand Junction;
sister-in-law, Charlene Gray of Chandler, Arizona and grandchildren:
Christopher Kling; Charles and Taylor Powell; Brent,
Shaylan, Khylee and Skylar Davis and Chandler Davis.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at
the Mountain View Bible Church in Lazear, Colorado.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Donna’s
memory to Horizon’s Health Care, 11411 Highway 65, Eckert,
Colorado 81418; Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado,
P. O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416 or to the American Cancer Society

Donna Jean Davis, 78, Hotchkiss, died July 11, 2012, at Horizon’s
Health Care Center.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Bible
Church in Lazear.
Survivors include her husband, Vern; two daughters, Liane Davis-
King of Craig and Gayle Powell of Denver; three sons, Tad of
Peyton, Blaine of Centennial and Errol of Seattle, Wash.; a brother,
Kenneth Lee of Grand Junction; a sister-in-law, Charlene Gray of
Chandler, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.
