Albert H. Mahrer, 85, Grand Junction, died July 22, 2012, at
Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery
of Western Colorado.
Mr. Mahrer was a college professor.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mahrer; one daughter, Sheryl
Coffey; and three grandchildren.

Albert H. Mahrer, age 85, passed
away July 22, 2012, at 8:20 p.m.
at the Veterans Affairs Medical
Center in Grand Junction from
natural causes.
Albert was born June 25, 1927,
in Forman, ND to Henry and
Marie Mahrer. He graduated from
Lisbon High School at the top of
his class in 1945. While still in
high school, he served in the ND State Guard. After graduation, he
enlisted in the Army (during World War II) where he was sent to
Italy and assigned to the Regimental Special Police of the 350th
Battle Mountain Regiment, 88th Blue Devil Division. Upon his return,
he was assigned to Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver.
Albert returned to ND where he attended NDSU and graduated
with honors with a Bachelor's in Aeronautical Engineering. He also
received a commission as Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve. He
was inducted into Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma honorary scholastic
fraternities and Scabbard and Blade military honorary fraternity.
Albert was employed as an engineering specialist and directed
flight testing at Edwards Air Force Based in CA. His test pilot was
Elliott See, Jr., who later became an astronaut and selected as Command
Pilot of the Gemini 9 flight. During his employment, he
earned an MBA at Santa Clara University in California.
In 1979, he accepted a position as Professor with Front Range
Community College in Denver. During this time, Albert earned a
PhD in Higher Education Administration at CSU.
While in Italy, he married his first wife which later ended in divorce.
He later met and married Mary Pat.
Albert is survived by his wife, Mary Pat; daughter, Sheryl (John)
Coffey, and three grandchildren, Courtney, Jason and Rachel. He is
also survived by his five children from his first marriage, Robert,
James, William, Jerry and Maria, and two step-sons, Wes and Jerry.
He is also survived by three sisters, Lorraine, Helen and Eileen, and
one brother, Lee. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret,
Bernice and Louise.
Albert is a veteran of World War II.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m.
at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Grand Junction.
