Margaret Monger, lifelong Steamboat Springs resident, died Jan. 11, 2011, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat. She was 93.
Margaret was born June 25, 1917, in Steamboat Springs, the daughter of John and Nettie (Gregory) Leston. She was born in the building where the Old Town Pub now resides. She was raised and attended school in Steamboat, after which she attended business school.
Margaret married John L. Monger on July 1, 1945, in Denver, and to this union two children were born. She lived in Steamboat for all but five years, when she and John lived in Grand Junction. Margaret worked for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator, as a clerk in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, as a bailiff for the court system and for an answering service.
Margaret is survived by her daughters Mary Monger, of Steamboat Springs, and Kathleen (George) Haller, of Lakewood; and her grandson Gregory Haller.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service was Jan. 15, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat with Pastor Tim Selby officiating. Her cremains will be interred in Steamboat Cemetery next to her husband in spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
