Obituaries

Craig Daily Press - October 15, 2009

Barry Lane Waugh was born April 6, 1953, in Oak Creek to parents Robert and Norma Jean Waugh.
Barry spent his early life in the Routt County area, mostly Hayden and Steamboat Springs. He lived in Steamboat from the time he was three until 1963, when he moved to Salt Lake City.
He was there for four years, returning to Steamboat Springs and graduating high school in 1971.
Upon graduation, he went to the oilfields, working his way from floorhand to driller and tool pusher the next 23 years.
His work took him through North Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado, and finally Nevada, where he settled in 1989.
He spent the next five years working in the oilfields in Railroad Valley. Throughout his oilfield days, he married Brenda Brandan in 1974.
To this union three sons were born: Barry Lane II, Travis William and Jonathan Alexander.
When Barry and Brenda divorced, Barry became a single father, raising his children in the Ruth and Ely, Nev., area. In 1994, he went to work for BHP, a copper mine in Ely, as a mechanic and Haul Pack driver until his health became so bad he became disabled.
He retired in 2000.
Throughout the years, Barry transitioned to being Cindy Louise and was never happier in her life as she was in her final years. She mastered computers, fixing and rebuilding them, and stayed a master mechanic.
She could fix anything, her children said.
She died Sept. 16, 2009, in Lyman, Wyo.
She is survived by her children, Barry (Denise) Lane II, of Las Vegas; Travis William and Jonathan Alexander, both of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Haley, Barry III, and Josh, all of Las Vegas; brothers Robert (Yolanda) Waugh, of Boise, Idaho, and Dennis Waugh, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; sisters Linda (Pat) Wayland, of Lyman, Wyo., Susan Reeves, of Craig, Sherry Lynn (Anthony) McCleskey, of Burke Burnette, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
For those who knew her as Barry first and Cindy next, we admire her courage against adversity to live the life that made her happy. Either way you knew her, she is loved and greatly missed.
Memorial services were Sept. 27, 2009, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Gay Albers officiating. Musical selections on CD were played. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Waugh, Dennis Waugh, Pat Wayland, Scott Wayland, Dean Kalwaitis and Terry Kalwaitis. Interment followed in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
