Curtis J. Kessler, Dec. 26, 1955-April 19, 2012. As temperatures drop and the mountains fill with snow again, we are given pause to remember the passing or our friend, brother, and fellow ski instructor, Curt Kessler.

Curt began his passion for skiing while a boy in Western Pennsylvania. He was a proud and very accomplished skier, admired by many across the country, for his remarkable skiing talent. He worked his way to a PSIA III instructor status from Peek'n Peak in New York, Angel Fire in New Mexico, Park City in Utah and ending in Vail.

At the end of last season, as spring drained winter from our playground, cancer drained life from Curt, and with it, his big smile, his charming personality, his incredible energy, his exceptional ability to ski and to teach, his intense love of life, and his unfailing friendship. Curt was certainly one of a kind. We have lost an invaluable member of Vail Mountain Ski School. We will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace. Curt will be remembered fondly by many in the Vail Valley, and as such, there will be a boulder in the Vail Memorial Park inscribed with his name and Curtis's wishes: “Champagne Powder Fields.”
