Doris Inez Knott, a longtime rancher in Oak Creek, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Doak Walker Care Center. She was 93
She was born April 25, 1918, to Courtney and Emma Mae (Gaskill) Ives in Arriba, Colo.
Her family moved to Routt County and settled on Mad Creek.
Doris graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1936, and her family moved to the ranch on Trout Creek outside of Oak Creek. She married Dan Knott on Oct. 18, 1938.
Doris loved ranch life.
She enjoyed working side by side with her husband and family in every aspect of ranching.
She had a special fondness for raising sheep. Doris turned in her saddle in her latter years for a four-wheeler.
She would ride her four-wheeler all over the ranch checking on the livestock or simply to go for a ride. She also enjoyed working with stain glass.
Doris was a lifetime member of the Routt County Cattlewomen and a 53-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She was known for her famous baked beans at the Routt County Woolgrowers barbecues.
Doris rarely missed a Routt County Fair. She was always there either supporting her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren showing their livestock projects, or by entering her own projects in the home exhibits. She has won numerous awards for her baking and canned goods, stain glass pictures and her homemade wine. Her wine even took grand champion at the Colorado State Fair.
She is survived by daughter Arloa Carnahan, of Oak Creek; son Bernard (Debra), of Oak Creek; grandsons Tad (Kim) Carnahan, of Oak Creek, Brad (Brenda) Carnahan, of Big Piney, Wyo., and Tyler Knott, of Oak Creek; and great-grandchildren Austin, Cole, Mackenzie, McKenna, Tate, Kellum, and McKaul Carnahan.
Her husband, parents and sister preceded her in death.
A memorial service was Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at South Routt Bible Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Hospice of Northwest Colorado in Steamboat Springs, in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, CO 81625, or to a charity of your choice.
