Marian Murphy was born in
Amarillo, Texas, to Pearl and Ely
Jesse Murphy. She grew up and
lived in Northwest Arkansas. She
met and married Joe Downum in
1942. In 1951, they moved to
Palisade, Colorado, where they
have been long-time residents.
She loved going to the mountains and fishing; she would get so excited.
She always was a hard worker and always had a large garden
to show for her efforts. She could sew, can, freeze, dry, and was a
homemaker who could make anything. She always led a humble life
and was generous to a fault. She didn't take the credit for it, be she
was an intelligent woman. Even into her eighties, she could help the
kids with their algebra, etc., when no one else could. Those who
knew and loved her will surely miss her and her ways.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Carl Phillips;
two granddaughters, Paula and Dane Sorter, and Audrey and Scott
Kinney; five great-grandchildren, Andy Sorter, Chris Corbett, Tori
Corbett, Kaylee Sorter, and Thanye Bradfield. She leaves two brothers,
James Murphy and Robert Blackman, as well as numerous
nieces and nephews.
Grave side services will be held at Palisade Cemetery, Tuesday,
May 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire is welcomed. In lieu of
flowers, donations are requested for: MDA, Palisade Christian
Church - for camp scholarships, or another charity of one's choosing.
Services have been entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home.
