Norman Lee Friend, 74, Grand Junction, died May 25, 2012, at
Hospice Care Center.
Services are pending later this week at First United Methodist
Church through Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Mr. Friend was a general contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Eva; one son, Larry Robbins of
Grand Junction; two daughters, Connie Robbins-Brady and Kathy
Schlauger, both of Grand Junction; four sisters, Roberta Watson of
Springfield, Mo., Alice Harris of Mountain Home, Ark., and Brenda
Sadler and Linda Grant, both of Grand Junction; eight grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.

Spring, Missouri, the second child
of six children, to Wayne and
Edith (Jackson) Friend. He grew
up in Missouri and moved with
his family to the Grand Valley at
the age of 16. He received his
high school diploma at Palisade
High School and a business degree
at Mesa Junior College.
Norman worked at several local businesses, and for the past 30 years
he was owner/operator of Construction Services. As a commercial
contractor, Norman was proud of the numerous buildings which
stand in the valley as a trademark of his work.
Norman was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Grand Junction, longtime member of the Orchard Mesa Lions Club,
Grand Junction Jaycees, the Model A Ford Club, and the local
chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association. He was currently
Vice President of the Orchard Mesa Irrigation District. Norman’s
favorite activities included traveling, fishing, camping, hunting,
bowling, restoring his Ford Model A Coupe and spending time with
his grandchildren.
Norman married Eva Marie in Las Vegas, August of 1973, taking
on role as father to her three teenaged children. He is survived by his
wife, and three children, Connie (Dennis) Robbins-Brady; Kathy
(Gary) Schlauger, and Larry (Lori) Robbins, all of Grand Junction;
eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Roberta Watson
of Springfield, Missouri; Alice (Ron) Harris of Mountain Home,
Arkansas, and Linda (Jack) Grant, and Brenda (Billy) Sadler, both
of Grand Junction, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded
in death by his parents and brother, Joseph Friend.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church,
522 White Avenue, Grand Junction on June 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
