Marie Rocco, 47, of Vail, a licensed dental assistant whose greatest joy came from being with her family and friends, died Oct. 5 in Havre de Grace, Md., where she had a second home.
Marie had lived in Vail since 2004 with her husband, Joe Greco, whom she married in August 2008. Born Aug. 6, 1965, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Donald Rocco and Janice Rocco (Trippiedi), Marie was brought to Staten Island, N.Y., as a child in 1966. She spent her youth residing in the town of New Dorp in Staten Island and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1983.
Marie attended the City University of New York College of Staten Island and worked as a dental assistant for a private practice in New Jersey before relocating to Boulder in 1993. In 1994, she moved to Telluride, where she first learned to ski, before returning to Boulder in 1997. Marie attended the University of Colorado and the Metropolitan State College of Denver, where she studied psychology.
Marie worked as an expanded functions dental assistant for more than 20 years. She was licensed in New Jersey, Colorado and Maryland and worked for various dentists in private practice in the Vail Valley. She also periodically worked as a waitress and in other medical offices.
She enjoyed skiing, sailing and many other outdoor activities. She also enjoyed working with her hands, taking care of her plants and garden and was a great cook. She will be remembered for the great meals she prepared, right down to the homemade pasta.
Marie cherished time spent with her family and many loving friends and was especially close to her nephew and godson, Donny Rocco III. Although her untimely death was a shock to everyone, she will always be remembered as a bright light and caring soul by all those whose lives she touched.
Marie is survived by her husband, Joseph L. (Joe) Greco, of Vail; her mother, Janice Rocco, of Lakewood, N.J.; her maternal grandmother, Olive Trippiedi, of Freehold, N.J.; her brother, Donald Rocco Jr., of Howell, N.J.; her sister, Christine Rocco, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sister-in-law Adriana Rocco, of Howell, N.J.; her nephew, Donny Rocco III; and many, many loving friends who miss her dearly.
The funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, N.J., on Oct. 10. Arrangements included cremation, which was her wish.
