Steamboat Today - February 25, 2012

Dustin John Harrison, adored son, nephew, brother, grandson, cousin and friend, was born Nov. 25, 1987, to Jennifer Harrison and Kelly Bemis in Steamboat Springs.
Dustin lived his life boldly. “DH,” as he is called by his friends and those who love him, thrived on being outdoors — camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. He was bigger than life — wild, tough and tender. He was a wrestling buddy, a friend to so many and a cherished son and grandson.
On Feb. 14, 2012, Dustin died at his home in Craig, leaving behind all of those in his life with memories of laughter, road trips, his craziness, his compassion for others and, as one friend has put it, “a Dustin-sized hole in their hearts.”
Dustin experienced loss early in his life with the death of his mother, Jennifer Harrison, at age 2. After her death, Dustin lived with his Grandma Becky Hale and later was reunited with his dad. He adored his dad and spent time with him doing what dads and sons do — there was so much of Kelly in Dustin. At age 14, Dustin lost his father and soon after, Grandma Becky. Even through all of his devastating losses, Dustin lived his life boldly and out loud. He affected those he was close to in a positive way, for the better. Tragically, Dustin did not know how big of a loss he would create for those who held him dear.
Dustin was preceded in his death by his mother, Jennifer Harrison; father Kelly Bemis; and grandmothers Becky Harrison (Hale) and Jeanie Bemis. He is survived by his brother Joey Hansen; aunt Cindy Smith; uncle Mark (Carrie) Smith; grandpa James Hale; numerous cousins; and many friends.
A memorial service is at 2 p.m. today at the Journey at First Baptist in Craig. A meal will follow at the Center of Craig for all who would like to attend. Memorial donations can be made to a fund set up to help with Dustin’s funeral costs in care of Grant Mortuary.
