Peter C. Forbes, 83, Craig, died May 31, 2012, at Larchwood
Inns.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. June 10 at the Steamboat
Christian Center, 821 Dougherty Road, Steamboat Springs.
Mr. Forbes was a retired real estate broker.
Survivors include three sons, Dana of Grand Junction, Rob of
Miami and Allen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Sandy Beran
of Craig; two brothers, Allen of Stuart, Fla., and Alex of London,
England; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Peter C. Forbes died peacefully May 31, 2012. He was 83.
Peter was born in New York City to Craig and Barbara Forbes. Allen and Alexander are his younger twin brothers. The family moved from New England to Miami, Fla. In middle school Cotillion, he met Jerre Brigham. He knew that he would wait for her to become his wife.
Peter earned his master’s degree in geology from Yale. During the summers, he hitchhiked from Miami to Colorado, where he helped cut ski runs in Aspen. In Miami he earned extra money by catching snakes for the Serpentarium snake zoo.
For 3 1/2 years, Peter was a second lieutenant with the Army Combat Engineers Corps. He received a citation as the outstanding candidate of his class. He also taught machine gunning.
Peter returned to Miami in 1954 and became reacquainted with Jerre. He planned a week full of activities for her; they married a year later. They moved to Colorado, where Peter worked as a geologist. His work moved them to Wakefield, Mich., doing exploration for potential iron mines. It was there that Peter and Jerre learned they could have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
In 1959, with two children, the couple moved back to Miami. Peter worked in real estate and was a geological consultant who also taught at Dade Junior College. Peter enrolled in the University of Miami Law School, graduating with honors. He was a member of the Florida Bar Association. Peter also served as an elder for the Galloway Presbyterian Church and a board member of Westminster Christian School. The family had grown to four children, staying active with boating and exploring the Everglades.
The mountains called him back to Colorado. The family moved to Steamboat Springs in 1971. Peter transformed AAA Auto Parts into 4 Seasons Auto Parts and relocated it to the west end of town. Later, he became a real estate broker and taught at Colorado Mountain College. Peter was active in the community. He served as a deacon at Euzoa Bible Church and helped to start Mountain Life Christian Counseling, Wee Life and to usher in the Christian radio station to Steamboat.
From 1982 to 1996, Peter stayed by Jerre’s side as she fought cancer. He was an example of true love.
In 2003, Peter retired to Craig with his daughter’s family. In 2011, he moved to Grand Junction, where he enjoyed visiting his son’s family and his granddaughter Marion’s family.
Peter leaves his daughter Sandy (Rainer), of Craig; his three sons, Dana (Brenda), of Grand Junction, Rob (Lisa), of Miami, and Lt Col. Allen Forbes, U.S. Marines, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Allen, of Stuart, Fla., and Alexander, of London, England; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Peter once told his daughter, “Hospice is like catching a falling leaf and holding it on the way to its destination.” Memorial donations may be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice at 745 Russell St., Craig, CO 81625, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B N. 12th St., Grand Junction, CO 81506.
A service is at 3 p.m. today at the Steamboat Christian Center and will include a military honors ceremony.
