Lucia “Lucy” Padilla, 71, of Gypsum, passed away Feb. 1 in Glenwood Springs.
She was to Joe Vigil and Tilly Terry on May 9, 1941, in Wagon Wheel Gap. Her family later moved to Red Cliff, where she met the love of her life, Benjamin Padilla. They were married Jan. 29, 1957, and were together for 56 years. Red Cliff was where they raised their family.
Lucia was preceded in death by her father, Joe Vigil; her father-in-law, Filadelfio Padilla; her mother, Tilly Terry; her mother-in-law, Doloritas Padilla; and her brother Benny Vigil.
She is survived by her loving husband, Benjamin; sons Tommy (Stella) Padilla and Gary (Denise) Padilla, both of Gypsum; granddaughters Monica (Raul) Pereida, of Gypsum, Jenelle (Kelly) Payne, of Denver, Amanda (Julio) Hermosillo, of Littleton, Shannen and Meredith Padilla, of Gypsum, and Matthew Benevidaz, of Alamosa; great-grandchildren Raquel and Raul Pereida; brother Eddie Vigil; and sisters Martha Marchase and Louise Ortivez, all of Colorado Springs.
Lucia loved playing bingo, reading, gambling and spending time with her family. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports and her sons coach basketball. She enjoyed going on walks and watching the Broncos and the Nuggets.
Rosary will be held on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eagle. Funeral services will be held Feb. 6 at 10 a.m., also at St. Mary's, located at 215 Capitol St. in Eagle. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Gypsum.
