Billie Margaret Horton Reed, 87, Palisade, died June 4, 2012, at
LaVilla Grande Care Center.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be
at 1 p.m. Friday at Mesa Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Miles; one daughter, Vickie Green;
four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Billie Margaret Horton Reed
died on Monday, June 4, 2012, at
LaVilla Grande Care Center, in
Grand Junction, Colorado. She
was 87 years old.
She was a resident of Molina,
C o l o r a d o l i v i n g o n t h e R e e d
Ranch; then retired and moved to
Palisade, Colorado in 1989, with
her husband, Miles. She passed away from natural causes.
Billie was born, February 14, 1925, to William Lee Horton and
Mamie Frances (Baker) Horton in Dawson, New Mexico. She married
Miles S. Reed on October 28, 1945, in Paonia, Colorado. They
were married 66 years.
Survivors include her husband, Miles; one daughter, Vickie (Dan)
Green: grandchildren, J.W. (Sally) Green; Clinton (Lindsey) Green;
Dawn Reed (Downy Martin), and June Smith; great-grandchildren,
Danni Green; Marley Martin, and Miles Martin and numerous nephews,
nieces and cousins.
Billie attended school at Palisade and Paonia. She graduated from
Paonia High School in 1943. She received a scholarship to Mesa
College, and took a summer business course. She was a member of
Les Fidel Sorority. She worked as a secretary for Mesa County Public
Welfare, secretary for Dr. H. H. Zeigel at the Plateau Valley
Hospital, Cottonwood Lakes Secretary and Plateau Valley School
Lunch Program.
In 1945, while living on the Reed Ranch in Molina she helped to
raise hogs, lambs, calves, and chickens. Billie had a garden every
year. She would do canning, and took care of the yard and flowers.
She even tried chopping down a cedar tree in the yard. She enjoyed
fishing, traveling to Arizona and drives to Cottonwood Lakes and
over Grand Mesa. Billie was an avid reader, especially the bible.
She was a member of the Clifton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by son, Lloyd Miles; daughter-in-law,
Mary (Toucher)Smith-Reed; parents, William Lee Horton and
Mamie Frances (Baker) Horton; sisters, Virginia Estelle Horton,
Edith Vermelle (Horton) Moore, and Lou Emma (Horton) Milholland.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7 and a
funeral service will be Friday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m.at Callahan- Edfast
Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, Colorado. Burial
will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mesa Cemetery.
