Kenneth Blaine Silliman, age 69,
passed away peacefully at his
home surrounded by his family on
June 6, 2012. It was a long fought
battle from pulmonary diseases
starting in 2000, but he was a courageous
fighter.
Blaine "Pete" was born June 27,
1942, in Price, Utah to Kenneth
Neil and Anna Mae Swanson Silliman.
He was raised in Green River, Utah and graduated from
Green River High School in 1960, where he was the student body
president. He graduated from Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute in
1962, and was attending Utah State University in Logan when he
was drafted.
Blaine served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He entered
the service March 18, 1964, and served in Germany until
March 7, 1966. He was on inactive reserve duty until June of 1967,
when he was called to duty once again. Blaine was honorably discharged
on February 28, 1970.
Pete married Sandra Kae Hubbard on September 6, 1966, in Grand
Junction, Colorado and they made their home in Green River, Utah
where he owned and operated S & S Garage which he and Sandi
started together in 1970. He inherited his father's farm next to the
garage and was dedicated to growing hay, corn and melons along
with many weeds he tried to keep under control.
Blaine served as a Green River councilman various years from
1976 until 1995 and served as Mayor from 1979 through 1985. He
received the Emery County Silver Bowl Award in 2006 for outstanding
volunteer service to Emery County.
Blaine was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was also a
member of Orient Lodge #15, F & A.M. of Green River, Utah where
he served as Worshipful Master in 2005. He received the Hiram
Award for service to his Lodge in October, 2001. He was also a
member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Utah; Bethany
Chapter # 9, OES of Green River, Utah.
Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra; son,
Michael and wife, Phillis; daughter, Lisa Silliman and husband,
Michael Davis; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Silliman, Andrea Silliman,
Ashlee Keener, Tanner Silliman, Cody Davis, Colton Davis,
Kenny Pete Silliman, and Randi Hatfield; three great-grandchildren,
Hanna Silliman, Audrey Matzke, and Skyler Davis; and sisters,
Sharon (Neil) Montague and Jann (Gordon) Moreshead and brother,
Dick (Sharon) Foster, and many extended family members and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mae Silliman.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, June 9, 2012, 11:00 a.m.,
at Green River LDS Ward. Family will receive friends at the church
Saturday from 9:30 -10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Elgin Cemetery,
Green River, Utah.
