One of Eagle County's leading citizens, Mrs. Nellie Young, died in Glenwood Springs Dec. 1, at the age of 86.
The widow of Hugh Young, she was outstanding in her interest in the Democratic party, and town affairs of Minturn. She had been a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minturn for 50 years.
Requim mass was said at St. Patrick's Saturday morning. Rev. Thomas Stone officiated. Interment was in the Minturn cemetery. Jim Seabry, Dave Williams, Gene Luby, Harvey Cline, Frank Sanders and Jim Smalich were pallbearers.
Mary E. Nellie McNicholas was born February 13, 1880 in Walnut, Iowa, the daughter of Annie and Thomas McNicholas. She was brought to Colorado and Leadville that same year by her parents and grew to womanhood in Leadville, where she received her education.
In May, 1902 she married Hugh C. Young and the couple moved to Minturn, to make their permanent home. Mr. Young and a daughter preceded her in death.
Mrs. Young was a member of N.O.W. Lodge No. 135 and St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society. Two months ago she suffered a a broken hip, and (has been) confined to the Glenwood hopsital since.
She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Guy of Minturn; a sister Annie Brennan of El Cajon, Cal. a brother, WIlliam McNicholas of Wilmington, Calif.; two grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.
