Dorothy Louise Kenlon, 90, died March 22 in Gunnison after a long period of declining health.
Dorothy was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Trinidad to Louis and Minnie. She graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Trinidad.
Shortly after high school, she passed rigorous federal security clearance and moved to Washington, D.C., to take a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She worked in a supporting role to FBI case investigators for several years.
She married Lewis Keith Kenlon on July 24, 1943, in Washington. After World War II, the couple relocated to Colorado to raise their family, living in Trinidad, Pueblo, Denver and Boulder.
Dorothy was an active volunteer in her children's schools and always remained physically fit. In the early 1990s she won the senior citizen's age category in the Bolder Boulder 10K.
After her husband died in 1997, Dorothy moved from Rifle to Eagle. She enjoyed activities at the Golden Eagle Senior Center and St. Mary's Catholic Church. She moved to Gunnison in 2011 and passed away at Gunnison Valley Health Senior Care Center.
Dorothy's loving spirit contributed greatly to the world around her. She never lost her kind and cheerful spirit, displaying it often with her beaming smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by son Ken Kenlon and his wife, Jan, of Gunnison; daughter Becky Kenlon Baptist of Gunnison; son Dan Kenlon and his wife, Anne, of Corning, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family held a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gunnison. Private interment services will be held later this year at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
