Daniel Ray Lister Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday. He was 64.
Dan was born in Limon on Aug. 21, 1948, to Ben and Ruby Lister. He moved around Colorado with his family until they settled in Grand Junction where he lived through high school. While visiting with friends in Fulford, he met Eileen Turgeon. They were married in Denver on April 27, 1968. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS temple.
Before moving to Gypsum, Dan and Eileen lived in Pueblo and Denver, where their sons Mickey and Dano were born. They moved to Gypsum in the fall of 1973. Dan worked in the building and construction business in Eagle County for almost 30 years. He built and remodeled many residential and commercial buildings. In 1985, the Listers added Zeke and Pierrette to their family.
After the kids were grown, Dan and Eileen moved up to their cabin in Fulford, where they were the only full-time residents. Dan enjoyed being in Fulford and being in the snow. The Listers moved back down to Eagle in May 2012.
Dan loved many things about life. He loved making log furniture, water-skiing at Lake Powell, golfing, playing with his kids and grandkids, restoring old cars, reading, doing things for others, watching Nascar and the History Channel, making lemon meringue pies and hosting barbecues. He truly loved Eileen.
Dan comes from a long line of Colorado pioneers and he was very proud of that heritage. He loved being a Coloradoan.
He served as mayor of Gypsum and as branch president of the Eagle Valley Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He will be greatly missed by many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Ruby Cash Lister and his twin sister, Julie (Kent) Schultz. He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Eileen Turgeon; children Mickey (Jessica), Daniel Ray, Jr. (Melissa), Zeke and Pierrette; 10 grandchildren; siblings Gary, Shirley (Les) Marsh and Jerri (Ron) Niemeyer; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gypsum, 934 Gypsum Creek Road, followed by a short graveside service at the Cedar Hills Cemetery in Gypsum.
