Linda N. (Norris) Pierce, 69, Steamboat Springs, died Oct. 26,
2012, in hospice.
Services will be held later in Steamboat Springs.
Ms. Pierce was a real estate broker.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd “Tyke”; three sons, Shane
Andrew of Gainesville, Fla., Jeff Andrew of Steamboat Springs
and Cal Pierce of Loveland; one daughter, Kristi Avalos of Gainesville;
one brother, Gerald Norris of Grand Junction; and six grandchildren.

Linda Nell Pierce, born March 22, 1943, passed away peacefully Oct. 26, 2012, at the Hospice House in Grand Junction with her husband, Tyke, and her niece, Toni Moersfelder, at her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril Norris and Esther Rider Norris, and grandparents Warren Rider and Lucy Susmilch Rider and Clifford Norris and Nina Norris.
Linda spent the first 18 years of her life on the Rider Ranch – 1,033 acres in the middle of the Elk River Valley. She grew into a top hand for her father and was his No. 1 wrangler when it came to gathering cattle. Linda was the only hand that could drive the plunger pole without running the loose hay off the stack.
Linda was a member of 4-H from the time she was old enough to work the stock and told of how cold it was while washing and grooming the animals at the National Western Stock Show in January of each year. She was the “Make It with Wool Contest” state champion at the Colorado State Fair. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls and a member of the Steamboat Springs High School cheerleading squad. She graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1961. Linda was raised in and as a member of United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs.
Linda moved from Steamboat Springs in 1962 and lived in Fort Collins; East Lansing, Mich.; Bogota, Colombia; and Gainesville, Fla. She returned to Steamboat in 1979. In April 1983, she met her soulmate, Tyke (Lloyd B.) Pierce, and they were married Aug. 6, 1983, at the Sky Valley Lodge on Rabbit Ears Pass just east of Steamboat. Tyke, a general contractor for more than 40 years, built their log home and outbuildings at 38615 Klein Road, where they have lived for the past 28 years. Together, they have enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and, most of all, spending time loving their family.
Linda was a real estate broker and bar manager in Steamboat. She also was a real estate agent and managed two cocktail lounges in the Gainesville, Fla., area. She was a fantastic cook and always wanted to make sure that everyone was comfortable and happy.
Precious and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of her husband, Tyke; sons Jeffrey LaVern Andrew (Regina), of Steamboat, and Shane Loren Andrew (Devonia), of Gainesville, Fla.; stepson Cal Pierce (Kathy), of Loveland; daughter Kristi Lynn Andrew Avalos, of Gainesville, Fla.; son-in-law Sergio Avalos (Mellie), of Douglas, Ga.; brother Gerald W. Norris (Marilynn), of Grand Junction; aunt Carol “Babe” Mitchell, of Grand Junction; grandchildren Samuel Andrew, of Steamboat Springs, Juan Avalos, of Athens, Ga., Stanley Hall, of Gainesville, Fla., Laura Avalos, Sergio Otis Avalos and Alina Avalos, of Douglas, Ga.; and nephews Chad Norris, of Dallas, and Eric Norris, of Baltimore.
We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the kindness and compassion shown by intensive care unit staff at The Memorial Hospital in Craig, ICU staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, and staff at the Hospice House in Grand Junction.
A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 at Euzoa Bible Church, 32305 Routt County Road 38 in Steamboat Springs. A reception for friends and family will immediately follow the service. The location for the reception will be announced at the service.
All memorial service arrangements and direction are being done by the Yampa Valley Funeral Home.
