Obituaries

Clara Berndt Zoellner died July 27, 1950 at Memorial Sanitarium in Denver. She was born March 27, 1881 in Zirchow, Germany and married George Zoellner in Denver, December 8, 1901. Her husband preceded her in death July 12, 1938.

To this union five children were born: Eda, Mrs. William Calhoun of Canon City, Colorado; Clara, Mrs. D.S. Jolly of Deertrail who died November 23, 1938; Margaretta, Mrs. Joseph D. Sullivan of Denver; Albertine, Mrs. David S. Jolly of Deertrail and George Leo Zoellner, of Boulder; ten grandchildren; one brother, Frank E. Berndt, Denver.

The couple came to Gypsum more than forty years ago and lived there continuously until Mr. Zoellner's death, when she spent part of her time with her children, always returning eventually, like a homing pigeon, to her home in Gypsum, until this year, when illness prevented.

Clara Zoellner's life span ran close to the allotted three score years and ten. Those years held much of tragedy and sorrow, but also much tranquil happiness and tender joy, for she loved the simple every day things of life -- to work in her garden among her flowers, and accomplished expertly, what fell her lot to do. She was never dissatisfied, adjusting her life calmly, to changing conditions. She did not covet what was her neighbors, or if she did, she hushed the still, small voice within her, accepting her own lot, loyally.

Clara Zoellner had three interests: her family, her home and her church and she lived her religion.

Her home held always an atmosphere of repose, quiet contentment and restfulness, and when God called her cherished loved ones, she bowed her head submissively and said "Thy will be done."

Such a one cannot die, her memory and influence will live on eternally, in the lives of her loved ones and those who knew her best.
