Russell Zweck
1926-1995

Russell Zweck of Longmont died July 28 at Saint Anthony's Central Hospital in Longmont. He was 68.

Born Oct. 3, 1926 in Longmont to George Herbert Zweck and Hallie (DePue) Zweck and married Feb. 23, 1947 to Gayle Thomas in Hygiene, Colo. he was a life-long farmer and the third generation of his family to farm land located at Longmont''s west 9th Ave. and Airport Rd. property homesteaded by Russell's grandfather, George Zweck, in 1859.

He was elected to the Hygiene Fire Board and served as a board member of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. He touched the lives of many boys as a Boy Scout leader with Troop 64 for 17 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hygiene and was a life-long Longmont resident. He enjoyed fishing and had a deep love for his farm.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Hallie Zweck.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Zweck; children Tom Zweck and his wife Connie of Longmont; Carol Stratton and her husband Dick of Gypsum; John Zweck and Lana Elliott of Longmont; and Dan Zweck and wife Monica, also of Longmont; sister Madgel Smith of Lincoln, Calif.; and grandchildren Heidi Zweck-Newman and husband Duffin of Denver; Krista Zwick and husband, Juan de Dios Piceno of Denver; Eva Stratton of Denver; Hanna Stratton of Portland, Ore.; Zack Stratton of Gypsum; and Roy Jacox, also of GYpsum, as well as numerous other relatives.

Memorial services were held July 31 at Mr. Zweck's Longmont farm with the Rev. Christine Williams Xavier of the United Methodist Church of Hygiene officiating. Cremation was handled by the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to Flight for Life, Ronald McDonald House or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont.
